Outgoing Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Matia Kasaija has called on Ugandans to safeguard the country’s economy from any form of sabotage, as he officially handed over office to Henry Musasizi at the ministry headquarters in Kampala.
Kasaija, who has served as Finance Minister since 2015, said the economy is on a steady growth path and must be protected from actions that could derail its progress.
“This economy is moving. We should not accept anybody or anything that will pull it down. I thank God that at my age, I can still do business and politics. I have really enjoyed working at the Ministry of Finance. We may now be in different situations, but we remain a solid group. If you have something that you think I can help with, I’m available,” Kasaija said.
Incoming Finance Minister Henry Musasizi praised Kasaija’s leadership, describing him as a man of integrity and sincerity during his tenure.
“I have found Kasaija to be a man with a good heart and a man who is sincere. He will never tell lies; even if the situation requires him to, he would decline. Kasaija is sincere to the extent that he would even come to Parliament and say, ‘you know what, this is my signature but the brief was written by someone else.’ He would then call the person who prepared the brief to present,” Musasizi said.
Kasaija hands over the ministry at a time when Uganda’s economy is projected to grow at 6.4 percent in the 2026/2027 financial year.
